We walk on trees in Warsaw! [work in progress]
As part of the inauguration of a series of projects about Warsaw by Sputnik Photos photographers, we present Jan Brykczyński's visual notes from family walks around his district.
The artist focuses on urban trees that his daughters notice, talk about, worry over, and wish they knew how to care for. At the heart of their interest are trees that are good for climbing—trees the children persistently try to scale. The broader planned project begins with the child’s need for play and movement, and expands into themes such as the innate need for connection with nature, air quality improvement, climate regulation in cities, aesthetics and urban landscape enhancement, habitats for wildlife, environmental education, mental health benefits, and increased community engagement.
If your children have favorite climbing trees in your neighborhood and would like to share their locations with us, we would be incredibly grateful for such recommendations — preferably in the comments below! In the meantime, here are a few photos from our walks, with more coming soon.
The project is co-funded by the City of Warsaw as part of the activities of the CHŁODNA 20 Social Center for Photography.
